Dirk has a dream in which Haigha reveals a connection to dirk to Dirk's father, and a childhood illness of Swan's.

Dirk saw through Haigha’s eyes as she stalked through the same void and came to a white will-o'-the-wisp. She plunged her beak into it like wet meat that tasted of iron and honey.   She saw Dirk's father sleeping in bed with his partner. She put her claws in the wisp and started forming a nightmare out of his dream. He was falling while a child cried.   Then the crying sounded familiar and she blinked back to her material self before tending to a feverish young Swan.   Swan appeared to be around six years old, but there's no way to get an accurate number.
