Humans

"So our eyes look weird and we can do weird things with our eyes. So what? I don't see why humans would need to get so worked up about that."

Rebekah gave him a blank stare. "Isaac, humans can barely stand the idea of other humans having different skin colors. How well do you think this is going to go over when it comes out?"

The dominant species on the planet. Humans have been largely oblivious to the existence of gorgons for centuries, believing them to only exist in the realm of mythology and fantasy. How they'll react as a whole when the truth comes out is unknown, but it has become the biggest source of anxiety for the gorgon society.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The human body consists of the legs, the torso, the arms, the neck, and the head. An adult human body consists of about 100 trillion cells. The most commonly defined body systems in humans are the nervous, the cardiovascular, the circulatory, the digestive, the endocrine, the immune, the integumentary, the lymphatic, the musculoskeletal, the reproductive, the respiratory, and the urinary system.

Biological Traits

Human biological traits vary substantially, with traits such as blood type, cranial features, eye color, hair color and type, height and build, and skin color varying across the globe.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans are a diploid eukaryotic species. Each somatic cell has two sets of 23 chromosomes, with each set received from one parent. Gametes have only one set of chromosomes, which is a mixture of the two parental sets. Among the 23 pairs of chromosomes are 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes. Humans have an XY sex-determination system, so that females have the sex chromosomes XX and males have XY.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Humans only know about gorgons through ancient myths and stories, most prominently the myth of Medusa. Because of this, gorgons have been depicted in human works as everything from hideous monsters to innocent and misunderstood victims. Time will tell how they'll react when they learn that gorgons actually do exist.
