Joey meets Elizabeth

Life, Relationship change

1921

After hearing about her from reports on the incident, Joey made his way to the ruin of Van Allen Mansion to meet Elizabeth Van Allen.

When Elizabeth Van Allen was 20 years old, she was virtually alone in the world. The only person left in her family was her ailing grandmother Edith, and they had no home to call their own. They had been staying with a distant relative on her father's side, but their welcome was wearing thin. She had decided to take her meager inheritance and rebuild a small cottage on her family's land. Unfortunately, before it's completion, Elizabeth's grandmother passed away. She moved into the cottage some time later, completely alone.   The beginning of the following year, Elizabeth made a new friend. A strange man started hanging around the apple trees. One day, Elizabeth went to go have a word with him. "I'll just tell him to be on his way," she thought.   He was of average height, about 5'10", with sandy blonde hair and brown eyes, but the most striking thing about him was that he was wearing white clown makeup with accents around the eyes and mouth like a mime. Elizabeth was taken aback. "Are you from some traveling circus?" The man smiled, seeming to take no notice of her ire. "Actually, I'm here expressly for you, Elizabeth. I've heard all about you." Elizabeth's temper rose higher. "I don't care what the papers or reporters or God knows who else you've talked to had to say about me. I want to be left alone." With that, she turned to leave. "But that's not quite true, is it?"   She froze.   "You miss your family dreadfully. Strangely enough, I think you feel somewhat responsible for what happened." Elizabeth felt a surge of anger and pain. She whirled around to confront the man, but was caught completely off guard when he appeared inches from her nose. She never heard him move.   "I can help you, Elizabeth. I can help you reconnect to your lost family, ease your pain, and what's more; take the revenge you so rightfully deserve." Elizabeth's eyes filled with tears. "How would you do that?" The man smiled a wide, toothy smile. Then, his gaze shifted past Elizabeth to someone standing at the door of the house. Suddenly, a familiar voice called out, "Lizzie?"   Joey was able to help Elizabeth see her brothers, whose souls were still on the Van Allen property, stuck at the site where they died. Elizabeth's grief was no less, however, constantly reminded of what was taken from her. Joey only fanned the flames and convinced her that she needed to take revenge. He told her that William Crawford's soul was caught in a form of purgatory at Slatefall Hospital where he died. Elizabeth's brothers counseled her to let it go; that their murderer had already perished and that was enough. But Elizabeth couldn't let go of the bitterness and grief.
