Acutania

Acutania is a state on the northern coast of Tembra, bordering the Ageing Sea. One of the three northern principalities to gain independence from Valysera shortly before the War for the Light, it sits between the Kalyrian Triarchy to the west, Gringar and Diros to the south, and Mernia to the east. As of 998 ATD, it is ruled by Prince Riordas Accuran.

History

In 125 EL, Acutania - along with Reysar and Mernia - were annexed by the Valyseran Empire during their age of unprecadented expansion. During this time, it was governed by assigned bureaucrats enacting the will of the empire.
In 236 EL, riding a wave of anti-empire sentiment sweeping Valyseria, the three states declared independence, and with the empire lacking the resources to defend their claim, succeeded with relatively little struggle. On account of local distaste for the empire and the kingdom that Valysera was beforehand, the new rulers adopted the style of 'prince', and the three became known as the three principalities.
