Dragon

Dragons, once proud and numerous arbiters of history, now prefer to keep to their own kind. Although not yet endangered, their numbers are dwindling. Commonly residing in the mountains north of Valysera and west of the Dwarven Freehold, they can live anywhere. Dragons sometimes have loyalty to their close relatives, but largely work alone as solitary creatures with selfish desires. They are incredibly intelligent and while they can speak common, they usually choose not to.

Origin

Dragons were said to have been born from the union between Pyriax, Lord of Fire and the draconic goddess Embractus, who gave form to the first dragon egg and breathed life into the creature inside. Embractus is also the deity worshipped by many oracles and prophets and is said to be the font of their power. However true these prophets' claims are, the link is through the gift of prophecy bestowed on many dragons. In the Ereman Faith of the Light denomination, Embractus is not believed and dragons are considered the spawn of Pyriax alone.

Prophecy

Dragons, as children of Embractus, inherited her powers of prophecy. A dragon's prophetic power is generally proportional to their size and power, with smaller dragons speaking prophecies of trivial consequence, or none at all. Great prophecies of national or global consequence are only heard from dragons of great size and power, which are rarely seen. As such, great prophecies are few and far between. The most famous draconic prophecy was that of the Prophecy of the Dawn, spoken by Egrarion the Terrible in around 500 ED. Although not the largest recorded dragon, this was the most significant prophecy in Blivera's history.
