Midah I Syrincore

King Midah I Syrincore

King Midah I, or Midah 'the Rash' was the second king of Eremere as the son and heir King Biddacrow. His near thirty-year reign was marked by continuous attempts to consolidate power as well as his two marriages: one disastrous union followed by one to a commoner loved by the peasantry.   He is generally remembered kindly by the sages, having founded the Order of Oris and successfully maintaining the integrity of the kingdom following the death of his warrior father.

Marriages

Midah's first marriage was to Queen Diamor Tarnell, a lady of Lylelor. They endured a horrendous personal relationship. Politically shrewd, however, the match kept the powerful Tarnells on side for Biddacrow's reign and the first months of Midah's. However, within a year of Midah's ascension, Diamor was killed in a riding accident. She was survived by one son, the disfigured and disdained Piamak, called the Devil by the people. He died before his father in 588.   Mere months after Diamor's death, Midah married Queen Kara, called the Peasant's Queen by the people due to her commoner upbringing and her kindness shown to the people. The marriage was looked down on by the nobility, but it allowed for Midah to create a more popular image of the royal family. With Kara, he had two children named Midah and Lidramar; Midah would succeed him as Midah II. The couple's first child was born less than nine months after the wedding, leading some scholars who don't value their necks to question the timings of the relationship and conception, as well as possible motives behind Queen Diamor's death.
