War of the Marian Succession

Military action

734ATD
755ATD

Queen Maria I, of House Syrincore, had married Earl Brandon Anders and had one son with him, of House Syrincore. Upon her death, Anders stole his son Oather's throne for himself, remarried, and passed the crown to his children of House Anders. Thus sparked the conflict.

When Queen Maria died in 734, Brandon realised his position as the de facto king would be lost if his son came to the throne. Oather, however, was on a military campaign in Tembra. By the time he returned to Crow's Rest, the kingdom was Brandon's, who had spread the false news of Oather's death.   Oather, however, struggled to raise an army strong enough to defeat his father's forces, and he was killed in battle in 752. By this point, King Brandon had now died, and his son by Layora Masters and Oather's half-brother King Brayman ruled.   But the fight was not over. Oather's son, Midah, continued the assault. King Brayman was captured in battle, but he was executed against Midah's wishes, who needed his war enemy in custody. As Brayman carried various items signifying his rank as king, these fell to Midah and he could lawfully say he was monarch. This aided Midah as thousands switched to his side. Now against his other half-brother King Brandon II, Midah was victorious in 755, executing Brandon and having all living members of House Anders exiled. Their lands were granted to House Ravenwood, the loyal cadet dynasty of House Syrincore.
