Magissens
Magissens are a sapient species that shares the land of Boomal with humans. Actually, they have for long been their rivals.
Magissens is the name they were given by humans. They call themselves Kasiik, or Kashiick, depending of the language's regional variations.
Basic Information
Dietary Needs and Habits
Magissens are omnivorous. They eat meat as well as fruits, vegetables, cereals. Although, most of the food they grow is a bit different from what humans are used to.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
The beak is slim and short, hidden in the facial feathers. the face is flat and circular around the eyes and beak. dark feathers mark a ring around the face, and hide small earholes.
The eye colours range between black, red, orange, yellow, brown, grey, or ochre.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Contrary to humans, Magissens are able to sense magic, and to work it.
They use magic as an everyday tool, to build objects and houses, as well as to fight, make art, communicate, teleport...
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Names are most often made of two syllables, the first is said to be given by the mother, and the second by the father. But no Kasiik has confirmed it yet.
Major Organizations
The Kasiik people are spread in small villages, with a few exchanges between them, through teleportation. However they are disorganised as their previous union ended with the war.
Courtship Ideals
Men are the ones doing the courtship to find a mate. They have to undertake a codified dance in front of the girls they want, to show off their body and feathers. If the girl accepts it, then the man has to prove his magical worth in an organised "battle" aginst his future father-in-law.
Average Technological Level
Magissens don't use manufacture or craft. They simply create with magic the objects they need.
Although, magic has limits in what they can perform, and imagining a new structure and function to an invention is hard, so a large number of magissens dedicate their life to trying to find new understanding of magic, in order to create new objects. And few ever manage to make a real breakthrough in magical creation.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Kasiik language is quite incomprehensible for humans. It consists in clicks, sounds and squawks, as well as ultrasounds, and it seems that the diversity of sounds and their arrangements is infinite. Some people who have lived for a longtime alongside kasiik have managed to traduce some sentences in reports in posession of the ASA.
Common Dress Code
Kasiik dress with loose coats and robes. The traditional colours are shades of blue and purple for the most part. Some clans are used to dress in more orange and green patterns. They fancy checked or striped fabrics too.
History
Magissens were once the dominant species in term of land occupancy. However, the expansion of mankind happened to the detriment of the Kasiik. The three wars that raged between humans and Kasiik always ended up in them losing territories.
They left all open territory after the last war to find shelter in remote, unaccessible parts of Boomal. However, tensions may rise again as some new contacts are made by the new generation of human explorers who engaged in discovering newly found lands.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Kasiik and Humans are ennemies on the long run, despite the number of attempts to make peace in the last millenia.
The memories of war and loss are still very strong in the mind of both camps, and tensions haven't faded yet.
Origin/Ancestry
Magissens are said to have been created by an Elemental. However no one know how and when.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Plumage is quite variable between one another in Kasiik people. They range in dull colours. With dark brown or even black, males are darker than females. The latter can present shades of grey, brown and ochre. Still, some women can have plumage darker than some males, so the distinction is not always easy. Plumage is not uniform, with lighter areas on the face, belly, underarm and adductors, as well as in the palms and foot soles. The back and tail have darker spots or stripes on the feather's tips.
