Career
Qualifications
anyone can draft for the Service. Soldiers undergo a nine month long training, during which they are formed in using spears, swords and bows.
Career Progression
Soldiers can stay in the Service after their two-years long mandatory service. Career military men can climb up the hierarchy, provided they follow suplementary trainings to access the ranks of elite, leftnant, specialists, up to commander.
Payment & Reimbursement
The basic payment of a second-rank soldier is a hundred shields per month. This payment, of course, increases with ranks.

Soldiers and units of the Service are "rented" by their chiefs to any organisation who pays for them. The main customers are city governments, large companies...

The standard gear contains a short ceramic sword or two ceramic or metal spears, a rifle (0.3d caliber standard rifle with manual load), a standard light sleeping bag, food rations, multi-purpose cloth strips...
The armor is made of a ceramic-plated leather. At least, a soldier has a full-face helmet, and a breastplate, but can also have arm and leg protections.
Some units are assigned large shields. Those are caramic-plated wood shields. They are bulky but give a very efficient protection.

Retired soldiers receive a ten-year pension, consisting in one third of their latest payment in the army
