Cylinders

Unlike in our world, records and CDs never took off in Borgalor, and instead the most common item to store data is a cylinder, which resembles our world's phonograph cylinders but with an outer iridescent surface similar to that on an optical disc, and are used for much the same things as the latter, including playing music, movies and video games.
Originally made of wax and later glass, modern cylinders are made with metals and certain alchemical ingredients. They come in various sizes depending on what sort of data is stored on them.
Cylinders are susceptible to damage by such things as dust, fingerprints, scratches, and thus are usually stored in cardboard tubes when not in use.
