Fun&Games Co.

Númric: Bþal-fú-Öpre /pθal fu œːphrɛ/

Fun&Games Co. is a númran video game company headquartered in New Falas, capital of Númra in the northern Southlands. Founded in 22 AF, the company originally produced arcade video games before branching out into the home console market, starting with the Toy Box in 31 AF and most recently the Treasure Chest in 39 AF.
While the Toy Box game catalogue mostly consisted of sequels and ports of older arcade games, Fun&Games has since published and developed a number of different games, with some such as Flutter and the Snail Slayer series becoming popular throughout Borgalor.
The company aims for overall younger audience than its rival video game companies, with only a few -most notably Fissures- featuring themes and stories intended for teenagers. Fun&Games' logo is a stylized rainbow, before which it used the númric syllabogram for bþa or -especially during the arcade era- the unofficial mascot Duck Knight.

History

Arcades

Fun&Games Co. started off producing games for arcades, which it still does even as the focus has shifted towards home consoles. During this era, the company was especially known for the Duck Knight series.

Notable games

  • Duck Knight: 2D fighting game series and spinoffs.
  • Parting Shot: Rail shooter where the player has to fend off attacks by wild animals, bandits and monsters.
  • Toy Box

The first console was released in 31 AF, which featured primarily ports and sequels to older arcade games along with a few original titles later on. Not only did it resemble an actual toy chest, but game cylinders and controllers could actually be stored in it as well.

    Notable games

  • Duck Knight: Ride to Victory: Jousting game where the player has to avoid increasingly absurd obstacles as they charge their opponent.
  • Whirligig

Launched in late 35 AF, the Whirligig ended up a commercial failure despite a promising start and some well-received games due to technical issues, high prize and competition from rival game companies. Compared to its predecessor and the Treasure Chest later on, the Whirligig had a complex design, most notably a colourful fan on top that spun when the console was in use, along with blinking lights on the controller and played a jingle when activated.
The console tended to break after only a few months, the fan in particular became infamous for spinning out of control, either catching fire or cause injuries as it broke loose. Prior to the release of the next console, sales from arcade games kept the company going for the most part.

    Notable games

  • Duck Knight to the Rescue!: 3D platformer which, while ambitious, was the last major game starring Duck Night due to poor sales of the console.
  • Dragon Jungle: Adventure game about a family that ends up back in prehistoric times.
  • Treasure Chest

Main article: Treasure Chest   Following the poor sales of the Whirligig, the next game console released by Fun&Games Co. in 39 AF featured a simpler and more cohesive design, which has proven quite popular so far.
