Australax
The Wild Land of Australax
Australax is a massive Landmass beyond the Known seas, Southwest the westmost islands in the Saphire Sea. A land covered in jungles and rivers so wide ships can sail side by side without their oars touching and still be an arrow's flight from the nearest margin. Twisted trees and beasts unlike those found anywhere else in the known world, except perhaps the depths of the Black Coast. Australax has no known civilizations, cities or kings. The Lost Colonies
Attempts to settle the savage lands were made by more than one nation, and those colonies invariably ended up failing and being eventually abandoned. Many don't even believe in Australax, thinking the continent to be a tall story for bored sailors, as no man has stepped foot in its shores in centuries.Sa'Abara
Sa'Abara was a colony settled in the mouth of a great river, in a marshland known simply as the Buzzing Swamp, due to the large amount of mosquitoes in the area. A Pharsian navigator named Abu was the leader of the colony taking two large galleys to begin construction. Sa'Abara was built first as a small coastal fortress of wood and stone before it expanded into a few housings. In less than five years, half the initial colonists were dead from a mysterious illness that them fever, nausea and the runs. Many blamed the bad airs of the swamp and the quality of water, while some attributed it to a curse. Abu left the survivors in Sa'Abara to return to the empire. There he petitioned the emperor for three full galleys of supplies and slaves to save the far-flung colony. He sailed out and neither he nor the colonists were ever heard from again.Agentos
Agentos was settled by a Corelian explorer and was one of the longest-lasting colonies in Australax. For twenty years the galleys sailed from Agentos ports full of wonders from the jungle. The city had stone walls, a palace, a few houses and at its height, perhaps two thousand people, the size of some major Polis in the Saphire Sea. Eventually, sailors began to return from Agentos mentioning a blight in crops and other maladies afflicting the citizens. Traffic diminished and then ceased entirely and once more, nothing was heard from the colonists. Two expeditions were sent to find the city but the Australax coast was poorly mapped and the city was never encountered. This was the end of any Helenian ambitions in the continent.Iraxos
Iraxos was constructed while Agentos was still a thriving city, built by Phoenixian merchants who didn't want to be far behind in the race for the products of the new world. But the cities were built far apart and never had much contact, trading mostly with the islands in the Saphire and Phoenix Seas. While never as big as Agentos, Iraxos had a much larger, more sophisticated port and the large Phoenixian galleys sailed through and from it even after Agentos went silent. The last anyone ever heard from Iraxos was when a merchant stopped by Heliopolis in their way to Tyros, and boasted that Iraxos was going to soon be the richest city in the known world. His galley was wrecked in a storm before he could deliver whatever news he had to the capital and no other ship ever sailed forth from Australax since. The Glimmering Towers
While there's no sign of existing civilization in Australax, people from Agentos and Iraxos both had reported that scouts heading deep into the jungle in an effort to map it, would report 'strange towers of light in the distance'. Expeditions attempted and fail to locate the source of the light, due to the dangers of the land. These phenomena was known as the Glimmering Towers, and some believed it to be a lost colony of the Atlassian Empire that still remained standing after the fall.
