City of Ardra

The City of Ardra is located in the northern continent, in the edge of the Greywood forest. It is the capital of the Kingdom of Ardra. Ardra is the most ancient Helenian city, and it's granite walls have stood testimony to centuries. Despite its age, both the city and the kingdom built around it are relatively small in size and population. Ardra architecture isn't as sophisticated as Heliopolis, with simpler, more sturdy and rustic line marking its many buildings. The durable, grey granite makes the majority of the city rather than the bright limestone. The Mountain Gate is the main entrance to the city.

Defences

Ardra is surrounded by a thick, crude but resistant granite wall. Short and broad drum-shape towers appear all around it, and the Mountain Gate functions as a small fortress along the wall, the gatehouse surrounded by a smaller wall and four additional towers that can be mounted with siege weapons.

History

Ardra was founded in the year 106, according to legend, after the Hero Adrianos, armed with the spear of Arthesia, slew a great chimera who plagued the region. According to legend, the hero plunged the spear soaked with the chimera's blood into the ground, and the spear's shaft grew overnight into a great white tree. While the truth of this remains unknown, in the central square of the city one can still see an ancient great Sycamore tree, long dead and leafless, but still a witness to the city's founding legend. After the death of the monster, peasants flocked to the regions at the edge of the greywoods and settled. Traditionally is believed that Adrianos was the first king of Ardra, and the Adrianon dynasty did rule the city for the first couple centuries before they were replaced by the current Sardron dynasty.
