Kingdom of Ardra
The Kingdom of Ardra is one of the oldest Helenian Kingdoms, and one of the 'Continental Kingdoms' along with Marsilis. Ardra is small in territory, but due to it's longevity and stability, it has older, more populous cities. Considered once the cradle of Helenian culture, now its regarded by its islander counterparts as less 'refined and sophisticated'. The people of Ardra take little notice of this, as their long story of fending off barbarian invasions and raids means they place less importance in philosophy and cultural achievements.
Structure
Ardra is ruled by a king in the molds of a traditional monarchy. The power is pretty much centralized on him, and the king appoints governors to the different cities and regions of the realm. The King, whoever, doesn't have absolute power, and while they may make alliances, declare war and sue for peace, the administration of justice is left to magistrates elected by the people of each city, who must act on a written code of laws.
History
The Foundation of Ardra is usually attributed to Adrianos, a mythological figure believed to have slain the chimera who plagued many villagers around the region. Hearing of the monsters defeat, many peasants flocked to the place to build a city in the fertile valley now free of danger. The city was named after the valley, Ardra. While the truth of that story is hard to access, most sources place it to have happened in the year 106. Since them, Ardra influence grew to cover everything between the sea and the mountains. In 245, the city of Olinto was officially founded, serving now as Ardra second largest settlement and it's main trade route with the rest of the Helenian world.
