Sun Kingdom
The Sun Kingdom is the largest power in the Golden Sea and a massive centralized kingdom with a theocratic administration that stretches from the shores of the Golden Sea deep into the scorching sands of the southern deserts. Between the Rassari and the Anubites, living alongside the Human population, the Sun Kingdom has the greatest variety of different species living under the same rulership.
Structure
The Sun-Kingdom is Ruled by the High-Solar, a monarch perceived as the continuous reincarnation of a living deity whose purpose is to guide the kingdom in accordance with the designs of the Deities from other planes. Being a sprawling kingdom with many large settlements besides the capital, the Sun Kingdom has a complex hierarchy of governance, with most positions beneath the High-Solar being occupied by religious authority. Each city is consecrated to a given God or Goddess, and the high-priest of that deity functions as the local governor of the city. This priest oversees other priests from other deities within his domain, as well as the priests that rule the small villages around his city. The priesthood is in charge of overseeing the culture of the land, distributing food and overseeing infrastructure projects, as well as the spiritual well-being of the people. Beneath them, a sect of secular officers known as magistrates, oversee the administration of justice, collect taxes, which will partially go towards the temple and partially to the civil administration, and organize the city watch and the local branch of the solar military. Civil and religious authority are strictly separated even though they share the duties of governance across the kingdom, with the High-Solar at the very top of both being the only exception, as the title embodies supreme authority in matters of religion and civil authority alike.
History
People have lived within the lands of the Sun Kingdom since there have been people. Even before man, it's said that those lands were inhabited by an ancient race is known only as the 'Monolith Builders'. Little is known of these creatures except by the great dark stone monoliths they left to spread through the most distant, desolated corners of the Sunkiss desert. Long after they were gone, civilization once again formed in the Sun Kingdom, seven main tribes emerged, who frequently warred with each other for control of the fertile lands around the rivers. Four Human tribes, a Rassari tribe and two Anubites tribes. Centuries of different alliances and conflicts culminate with the formation of two large kingdoms, the Kingdom of Dawn and the Kingdom of Dusk.
