Session 3: Trouble in Broverton III

General Summary

Fizz wanted to investigate magic roots before leaving. Upon trying, the root caused a magical chemical burn on her finger. The party agreed that we should investigate the magic roots, so Zex tried using a short-sword on the magic spicy root after a couple chops, it cut maybe halfway through. Leo ended up using his hammer to finish the job out of pure spite that Zex couldn’t do cut a silly root. That still didn’t fully work, so Love then gave it a shield smackdown. It took all 3 people to get through a fucking root. Upon cutting the root section from the rest of it, the blackness disappeared and it disintegrated into ash. In the background, there was a thumping noise. The squad decided to head towards it, as Var leads the pack walking away from the artificer’s compound. (Leonidus disallows Love from backpacking on his back on the way).
On the way on the path in the forest, rustling is heard on the sides of the forest path. It turns out to be 3 corrupt badgers! Rodney said it was just 1 "normal, happy badger", but he was wrong!!! Then all of a sudden, bats started swooping down on us as soon as Zex got near a tree. Luckily Zex took care one of the badgers, but the bats b-lined toward Leo and Var. Var ended up slapping a bat – he hates bats, apparently. More and more mayhem came about, as 2 boars came running down the laneway. Fizz tried to stop them by throwing a powerful chaos bolt at one of the boars, and sent it off-course, and limping. The second boar went and charged Love, and started getting swarmed by a bat as well. All the while, Leo was trying to be sneaky on the second boar, but was being sneaky shittily and the bats, the boar, and a badger were all alerted in the area. The first boar regains his stamina and charges to Fizz, knocking her prone. At the same time, Rodney decides to be a fuckin Chad and double helix backflips into a badger, doing critical damage to the badger and runs away. Unfortunately, the badger doesn’t like that and the badger swats Rodney in the ass on his way out. Rodney was like, “shit that was cool as fuck, but I ain’t trying that again.”
A bear has now came out of nowhere, and Zex had the great idea of clumsily climbing into a tree and putting an arrow to it’s knee. The bear got angry, and climbed the tree and bit Zex with a “no u” uno card. Not too far away from that tree, Fizz bopped the first boar with her staff, double gripped, and accordion faced the boar into oblivion, until the boar was part of the earth under foot. For some reason, about 10 feet away, Love decided to literally turtle up. The boar charged him, and actually helped flip him back over. Var decides to bonk at that same badger, but does nothing; but Leo hits the boar, and a swift kill with an overarching overhead swing brings the boar crashing down. There’s still one badger left, and it swipes at Var, giving him the ouchies.
Back to the bear situation in the corner, Zex and the bear both fail to hit each other, and end up cat fighting in a tree until Zex decides to book it out of the tree, running past Leo. While that’s happening, the last badger hits Leo; Leo retaliates by giving it a whammy bop on the head. To finish it off, Var steps on it’s tail, and cutting off its head in one swift motion.
All that’s left at this point is the bear and the bat swarm, which hasn’t been doing all that much. Bear shenanigans continue, with Leo, Zex, and the bear rocking around the Christmas tree. The bear ends up shooting out of the tree to run after Zex, but Leo is in the way. The bear lands on Leo like a pillow, and fucking drops Leo via his two claws - he is barely alive.
Focusing now on the other corner of the battlefield, Fizz and Love fail to hit the bat swarm, and the bats fail just as badly in their retaliation. Var somehow manages to swat at the bats and do damage (where was this with the gargoyles?) There was then about half of the swarm left.
Back to the bear, Leo manages to annihilate the bear, bursting it’s jaw from its skull. When this was happening, everyone heard from above, a very Morgan Freeman-esque voice “Holy shit you’re killing everything my dude” towards Leo. It must be the narrator interjecting, because holy fuck.
Equally if not more amazingly, Zex pulls off the unthinkable: he summoned his inner super Saiyan and shot an arrow through the bat swarm, getting all 4 bats onto an arrow skewer that pummeled into a tree, finishing off the swarm. Then for some reason, Love brings back a badger from the dead, which quickly scurries off into the forest, hitting a corrupt root, and turning back into a corrupt creature.
After a short rest, now that everything is gone, the squad could hear that the thuds are louder – they were almost there. Love sends Rodney up the laneway to investigate, and reports back that there’s a tower up ahead, very similar to the one Var described from the artificer’s diagram. We decide to move up towards the tower area, with animals in the vicinity, but not too close. We see pulsating vines coming from the tower. There’s this blunt head type thing as part of the tower, pounding into the ground – the source of the noise. As they look up at the giant black metal tower structure, about 40 feet tall, they notice a ramp about halfway up. There’s this control box, and interesting things are coming out of it. And even worse, there’s the outline of a figure at the top of the walkway, staring in our direction.
