One day, the Deity known as Bryn decided to make a physical world that could be an extension of her own celestial realm. This world was created without the knowledge or assistance of the others within the pantheon of Deities. Both this world and the main continent initially created within it became known as Brynsvale. Bryn used her magic to create many intelligent lifeforms to populate this land, including the Vampires, Selkies, Satyrs, Faeries, and Kenku. Strange beasts and less intelligent creatures were also randomly formed from leftover magics flowing from her realm.
The other Deities eventually discovered Bryn’s physical plane, but were unable to directly intervene due to how it was connected to Bryn's own celestial realm. Over thousands of years the Deities labored to send whispers of their own magical influence into Bryn’s world. Over time, they were able to form other intelligent races that inhabit various continents. While their influence may be small, many of the races outside of the continent of Brynsvale actively worship these Deities to varying degrees.
Bryn herself does not take an active role into the events of the physical plane she created. The sentient races of the Brynsvale continent consider her to be the Mother of All, while the other races of the realm call her the Goddess of Night. Bryn resides in her celestial realm, which lays in a different magical dimension over her physical world. It has been said that creatures from her magical realm will sometimes fall into the physical one through tears in reality. In some rare cases, people of the physical world have mysteriously disappeared and assumed to have shifted into Bryn's celestial plane.
The Continent of Brynsvale
Brynsvale is a large continent that makes up a sizable portion of the known world. It is said to be the hub from which all magic originated from as well as a metaphysical tether to the celestial realm in which the Deity Bryn resides. The continent has experienced an unstable amount of magic seeping into the landscape from Bryn's realm over the last few hundred years. This event is known as the Cataclysm.
The Cataclysm led to the environments of Brynsvale rapidly changing and the many native races of Brynsvale banding together to preserve their communities. Large portions of this land remain unexplored or considered "wild" due to the drastic changes in the landscape. Older family homes and townships have been considered lost; abandoned during the environmental chaos of the Catclysm's initial surge. Bryn's magic has also inadvertently created many monsters, curses, and abominations that roam the lands. However, many major cities and smaller townships still dot the continent. They remain intact and protected by magic sigils that stabilize the land they reside on.
About 150 years ago the first settlers from other continents in the world arrived on Brynsvale's shores. Known as The Coalition, they represented various races that were fleeing from a variety of tragic events that were afflicting their homelands. The Coalition received permission from the native races of Brynsvale to settle on the Southern tip of the continent. They built Gravesborough, a settlement that has now become a large city in the modern era. The Coalition worked hard to have minimal impact on the native flora and fauna of Brynsvale while maintaining a strong peace with it's native races. All races of the world now peacefully coexist on Brynsvale, with the native races still making a large portion of the continent's population.
The changing landscape and unique magical resources of this land make a prime continent for adventure. Explorers from Brynsvale itself and the other continents come to uncover the land's many mystical secrets. Some act as mercenaries to exterminate dangerous abominations, while others search for ancient cultural relics from their lost past. Unique creatures known as Cryptids also roam the land; their forms documented by enthusiasts who study the manifestation of Bryn's magic in the physical world.
