Burning Guest

A falling star

The group was in Heimatingen, a small town in the kingdom Nirin for the equinox celebrations. The celebrations went smoothly, and the party that followed lasted well into the night.   Then someone notices a shooting star. The news causes great excitement until the people realise, that the shooting star is coming their way! Luckily for them, it hits the nearby Blaetterdach-Woods instead of the town. A pillar of flame rises from the forest. The unicorns present are horrified to see their home in flames. The mayor asks if anyone is brave enough to venture into the forest to see what has happened. The group answers the call and, after some preparation, sets off on their adventure.

Through the forest

When the group reaches the forest, it becomes clear that something is very wrong. On closer inspection, it appears that the animals in the forest are attacking each other. The party may come across shards of a black, glass-like substance (obsidian). When the shards are tested for magic, the party finds that they are cursed, but the exact nature of the curse is unclear.   The group finds a mother bear attacking her cubs. If the group intervenes and defeats the mother bear, they can examine the body (and perhaps try to stabilise it). They will find several obsidian shards in her skin, which have been cursed in various ways. It is highly likely that she will return to normal once these shards are removed.   On their way deeper into the forest, they come across a unicorn that has been hit by a fallen tree. She will attack the with its magic if they approach her. Once she is defeated or has lost all her magical energy, the group can examine her and find several of the obsidian shards in her fur. Once these have been removed, she regains her senses and apologises, but she is still stuck and probably has several broken bones.

The Crater

The group reaches the edge of the crater. It is about 200 metres wide and two metres deep, with a large stone in the middle. To reach it, the group must cross a 15 metre wide field of splinters and shards around the stone.

The Meteorite

The meteorite is a stone the size of a house. There are large pieces of obsidian covered in runes around some of the edges. After some experimentation, the group manages to open a door into it. Rrkh comes out on shaky legs and attacks the group.   If the group check on them, they will see that the word "Traitor" is engraved on their backs. If Rrkh is killed, the curses that haunt the forest will end immediately. If they are spared, they will be deeply grateful, but the curses will remain. This could be the start of a new adventure, or it could mean that the monarchs' mages are called to end the curse.
