Personal history
Makren was a leader during the Umenorian Civil War, after the end of the conflict, imperial edict dictated that the hobgoblin legions that belonged to the Great Houses of Umenor were to be disbanded. Makren was a lifetime soldier, having spilled blood for the elves of the Empire for many years, and it did not sit well with him. Especially when there were very little structures in place to help integrate hobgoblins into regular imperial life. Instead, Makren led as many of his fellow hobgoblins that would follow him to a ruined fortress, and became something of a bandit lord.
