Half-Elf

The Elves in Cael are thought by some to be immortal, and that is not far from the truth. Some individuals are thought to be older than written history. While not xenophobic or typically hostile towards outsiders, they are incredibly reclusive and prefer to keep themselves at a polite distance from other races.

While the elves have largely withdrawn from the affairs of other species, this was not always the case and there are still rare exceptions. Sometimes, this exchange is more than platonic, and viable unions between Elves and Humans can produce offspring. Elf parents rarely remain in the lives of human partners and half-elf children for long, and the reasons for this are not widely known. These unions are rare enough that the relationship dynamics are not speculated on much by those who are not impacted by them.

As to half-elves themselves: elven blood seems to be dominant. Half-elven lines can remain dramatically apparent for several generations, long after any direct elf progenitors have been involved. While not hated by the elves by any means, half-elves are not welcome within the borders of elven lands any more than other non-elves. They do well enough in human regions, or sometimes form communities of their own.

Due to their long lives and social adaptability, those that stay the bulk of their lives within a given community are often the local experts or masters of their chosen field.
