Freedom Valley University

Purpose / Function

To educate and cultivate the next generation of Erbeilian citizens, fostering loyalty to the Empire and advancement in various fields deemed crucial for national power.   Secondarily, to provide a limited number of talented individuals from non-elite backgrounds with the opportunity to rise through the ranks and contribute their skills to the Empire.

Alterations

Initial Plans vs. Reality:
Originally envisioned as a bastion of free thought and academic exploration, the university's curriculum was gradually altered to incorporate strict Imperial doctrine and glorify Erbeilian history. Courses deemed potentially subversive, such as philosophy questioning the divine right of Emperors, were removed.   Restricted Access:
While initially intended to be open to all talented students regardless of social standing, access to Freedom Valley University became increasingly restricted. Entrance exams heavily favored children of the elite, and scholarships for underprivileged students became scarce.

Architecture

A Blend of Styles:
The university buildings reflect a blend of Erbeilian grandeur and subtle subversion. The imposing main hall, constructed from red marble, embodies Imperial might. However, closer inspection reveals intricate carvings depicting scenes from the region's pre-Erbeilian past, a subtle nod to the rich history that predates the Empire.   Hidden Spaces:
Rumors persist of hidden chambers and secret passages within the university, potentially constructed by sympathetic architects who wished to preserve knowledge deemed forbidden by the Empire. These spaces might house banned texts, historical records, or even meeting places for those critical of the regime.

History

A Dream Realized:
The concept of Freedom Valley University originated with a group of visionary Erbeilian scholars who believed education was key to the Empire's continued success. After years of lobbying and securing the support of influential figures, construction began 25 years later.   Changing Landscape:
The university's early years were marked by a vibrant intellectual atmosphere. However, as the Erbeilian Empire's grip on power tightened, the curriculum and faculty came under increasing scrutiny. Professors deemed too liberal were dismissed, replaced by those who adhered strictly to the Imperial ideology. Despite these restrictions, a spirit of rebellion continues to flicker within the university walls. Students and professors alike might engage in clandestine discussions, preserving forbidden knowledge and potentially harboring dreams of a freer future. Freedom Valley University has become a battleground for ideas, a place where the pursuit of truth clashes with the constraints of an authoritarian regime.
