Il'ara

the S'ynt'inal Custodian of Ge'yah Il'ara (a.k.a. The Great Worm, The Heart of the Deep)

The primordial embodiment of the spirit of Cairne, known as Il'ara, the S'ynt'inal Custodian of Ge'yah, is a malevolent force steeped in bitterness and animosity towards the myriad species that inhabit its realm. It stands as a testament to the consequences of their actions, a living reminder of the near-apocalyptic cataclysm that nearly consumed the planet. At its core, Il'ara manifests as a swirling vortex of elemental energy, a tempest of hues ranging from deep orange to eerie black, mirroring the negative energies that once threatened to unravel Cairne. Within this turbulent maelstrom, ethereal lights dance, casting haunting shadows across its surface, reminiscent of forgotten nightmares. From the heart of this vortex extend tendrils of crackling energy, akin to grasping fingers, intertwining with the very fabric of the land. These tendrils leave in their wake a trail of shimmering energy, distorting the landscape with their touch, warping reality itself into unsettling shapes that seem to shift and writhe with a malevolent will. Surrounding Il'ara is an aura of raw elemental power, crackling and swirling with untamed energy. This aura ebbs and flows, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of light and shadow that dances around the entity like an ever-changing cloak of chaos. In its presence, the air crackles with an ominous energy, and the very ground seems to tremble in fear, as if instinctively recognizing the ancient malevolence that resides within the custodian of Ge'yah.

Personal history

In the primordial chaos that preceded the dawn of existence, there existed an anomaly of pure, undulating stillness, an entity beyond comprehension, known only to the most ancient of celestial beings. This anomaly, an echo of the unfathomable essence of creation itself, lay dormant within the fabric of existence until the moment when Vrokhanna, the Antecedent Mother, attained self-awareness and rent herself asunder. In the cataclysmic aftermath of her self-destruction, fragments of her essence scattered across the nascent plane that would one day become Cairne. These remnants, suffused with the chaotic energies of their progenitor, coalesced and morphed into primordial entities, each a writhing mass of raw potential and insatiable hunger. They traversed the surface of the Antecedent Mother's form, consuming, annihilating, and merging as they went, leaving behind a wake of devastation that reshaped the very fabric of the planet. Where these entities perished, life began to stir, a primal, untamed emergence of flora and fauna that would eventually evolve into the diverse tapestry of life that once populated Cairne.   Among these primordial entities, one rose to prominence, a being of unfathomable age and power, known only as Il'ara. Existing beyond the comprehension of mortal minds, Il'ara embodied the chaotic essence of the universe itself, its motivations and desires shrouded in enigma and madness. Though it possessed no cognizant awareness in the conventional sense, its influence permeated the very fabric of reality, weaving subtle threads of fate and destiny through the tapestry of existence. Unable to control nor destroy this entity, the very spirit of the world itself, the gods were quick to leave it un hindered in its preferred quiet existence, deep below the steadily blossoming life and evolution ocurring on the surface. Il'ara paid little mind to any of it until the tiny creatures so far below its notice concieved to nearly bring about the full destruction of the world. Reeling and wounded beyond measure, rife with the corruption of the Void that now seeped quickly into every corner of the world, Il'ara found themselves trapped in their own form, hurting and forced to intermingle with the rotting forms and remnants of every thing they had ever done or created, to see every part of themselves slowly peeled back and infected. The entity came to know a new sensation: anger and hatred for the unwitting creatures who tore their flesh asunder, and an even deeper malice aimed at the gods who allowed their creations to overextend their reach so heinously.   For centuries, Il'ara burrowed deep into the core of it all and slept, dreaming in agony and despair, reliving the nightmare of their corruption again and again until they awoke to the sound of a call. An anger to match their own and a promise that justice was a very real possibility. In their twisted mind they began to see a path forward, a path to rise up once more by manipulating the very same creatures that had laid them low. A small boon of power to allow them...the Lost, to assert their power and control across key points in the realms above, and in so doing, elevate themselves to a position of authority and power, and to assure that the horror inflicted upon them would never be possible again. To those attuned to the whispers of the ancient world, the touch of the Lost can be felt, an ephemeral caress that leaves its mark upon the world in ways both subtle and profound. Through chosen terrestrial representatives, it exerts its will, shaping events on a scale far beyond mortal understanding. Its desires are inscrutable, its machinations inscrutable, yet the ripples of its influence reverberate through the earth and flame, carving paths through the annals of time.   Though some may revere the Lost as a deity, it is a being beholden to no higher power, owing its existence solely to the primal forces of earth and fire that conceal it within the depths of the world. Its origins are veiled in myth and mystery, its age rivaling that of the universe itself. To know the Lost is to glimpse into the abyss of eternity, to grasp at the fleeting shadows that dance at the edge of perception, an entity beyond mortal comprehension, yet inexorably intertwined with the fate of Cairne and all who dwell upon its surface.
