The Awakened
This is a loosely organized group that is attempting to reawaken the Antecedent Mother of All based upon a handful of crumbling codexes a Ventryte Arcanist named Neave Windholm discovered while exploring an elven ruin in the Wastes. Neave scrambled to amass all she would need to complete the rite, but the incantations were missing parts, and the ritual was incomplete. She began a quest that brought her to some of the farthest reaches of Cairne, scouring the globe for anything that might serve to complete the ritual, even risking deep expeditions into the Wastes. All was in vain, but word spread quickly and the enticing possibility of once again reconnecting with divinity was intoxicating for many. Before she knew it, Neave had amassed not only a substantial following, but a sizable fortune in donations as well. Those that sought her out saw her as a prophet, chosen by Vrokhanna herself to lead her people back into her divine graces and reawaken the sleeping goddess bringing about an ascendant rebirth of the world and its people.
Mythology & Lore
In the beginning of all things within the realm of what would be the plane that houses cairne, there was an anomaly of pure chaotic stillness, like an unmoving torrent of potential energy seething within existence. This plane of existence is known only to the most ancient of celestial creatures and remembered by even fewer. When Vrokhanna attained her self-awareness and tore herself apart, small portions and remnants of her form escaped her hungry children and rose up upon the surface of Cairne. These primordial creatures warped and changed, bound by the chaos from which they were created, and began to move across the surface of the Antecedent Mother's body, devouring, destroying, and merging as they went. This violent era shaped the planet and where the last tattered remains of these creatures fell, life arose. Primal and feral and varied, these were the seeds of the lives that would one day populate the planet.
Divine Origins
This is a loosely organized group that is attempting to reawaken the Antecedent Mother of All based upon a handful of crumbling codexes a Ventryte Arcanist named Neave Windholm discovered while exploring an elven ruin in the Wastes. The codices, ancient as they were, contained some of the oldest known writings on the subject of the origins of divinity in Cairne's universe. The writings themselves were heavily damaged by the passage of time and the neglect suffered since the Blight, but the recovered sections that were translatable described a powerful ritual intended to resurrect the lost Mother and bring about her place in the pantheon as sole queen and goddess over all. In her fervor to return to favor in the eyes of the divine.
Political Influence & Intrigue
- Public Opinion It is actually a very small minority that subscribe to Neave's growing following. Most view it at best as a waste of time, and at worst, a sacrilege against the old ways. The Bechtlarite do not allow the cult to practice within its boundaries at all, seeing it as a potential threat against the laws set forth to protect against another catastrophe. Neave was actually granted a small audience with the elf queen, Sharvisal Gwhynndahris via the Well of Whispers, but it turned out to be a diversion while the Gauldowhynna attempted to capture her in the Wastes, nearly succeeding and killing a handful of Neave's followers in the process.
- The Lie Neave, fearful of losing the opportunity that her new found fame and fortune have provided her, has completely immersed herself in the role fate has given her, the vagabond prophetess chosen by the elder goddess to reconnect the souls of Cairne with their creator. She sells this with a degree of reverence and false piety. New initiates are asked to donate what they can to the cause and are immediately shuffled off to search out any information they can find to help her achieve her goals.
- The Truth Neave is an unwilling charlatan at best, merely taking advantage of what she now viewed as a nearly lost cause. She fears what will become of her should the truth get out, that the ritual is incomplete and possibly even just the ramblings of a mad writer, long since forgotten.
