Veden Vaki
Once these creatures, though few in number, prospered in the waters of Cairne. These Fey spirits were known to be protectors of their domains, mischievous and at times dangerous, but for the most part content to exist peacefully within the places they inhabited as long as those location were respected and generally left alone by outsiders. Once the Blight hit, and all the waters of Cairne were tainted, the presence of that taint, and the influence of the Void itself quickly warped these creatures into a shadow of what they once were, twisting them into horrifying mockeries of the noble entities they once were.
Basic Information
Anatomy
These creature, when they chose to reveal themselves, take on a humanoid shape, normally that of a woman, but not exclusively so. While their shape is recognizable, there is seldom any mistake about their nature being something other than what they appear. They manifest wrapped in the leaves and fronds of the waterborne plant life that exists within their domain, exhibiting a soft green hue with watery, drifting hair and glowing eyes of green to yellow tones. This figure is deceptive, however, as they are talented shapeshifters, able to assume the form of anything from a humanoid creature to a log or other animal. The only limitations to this is that their form must always retain the same mass. When they choose to, they can completely hide their true nature with this ability visually.
Genetics and Reproduction
The time spent absorbing the Void's energies have left these entities unable to reproduce normally, though even prior to the influence of those energies, reproduction was a rare thing. They have been known to entire humanoids from time to time, and rumors persists about half blooded creatures that spawn from these unions bearing horrifying mutations from both parents, but no known occurrence of this has been documented.
Ecology and Habitats
The Veden Vaki exist primarily in fresh water locations such as rivers, ponds, and even swamplands, though very few of these still exist, and the ones that do are inexorably polluted with the Void's energy.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Veden Vaki are carnivores first and foremost, existing on the fish and other creatures that inhabit their domain, but they have been known to catch and eat any unwary creature that gets too close to their home, including but not exclusively humanoids.
Behaviour
While each of these creatures is an individual, showing their own personality and behavior based upon their history, one thing they do share in common is that the time since the Blight and the changes to their environment is reflected in their mental and emotional state as madness. They are vicious and violent, devious and cunning, and seem to relish in causing pain in mortals, often singing and laughing as they are made to suffer.

History
There was a time when these creatures were members of the Fey Courts that traveled to and from Cairne regularly, and could be found journeying to gatherings with their fellow kin and play their roles within the schemes and plots of their patrons. They have always been protectors of their dominion, and fervently so, harboring no real love for the races of mortals and their ways. There were, however, tales and legends of one being occasionally benign and even helpful with a humanoid that was respectful or offered something in return that struck their fancy or curiosity.
