The Order
After the rise of machinery and science, as well as the establishment of a new Monotheistic religion, a new organization was established in the year 1246 called the Order. Originally built for the purpose of safeguarding the new religion, its purpose has changed over the years, now safeguarding the people from the terrible effects of magic.
The Order follows a strict hierarchical model, where the Archbishop reigns supreme. After the Archbishop, there are the Bishops, religious figureheads, secretaries, commanders and guards. Usually the top level of the organization deals with bureaucracy, while commanders and guards have active field duty. They take the honourary title "Hexbreakers", and have a special badge that allows them to use magic freely. This badge carries a unique magical signature, making it hard to forge.
However, becoming a Hexbreaker is far from an easy feat. Humans are very clearly favoured for the task, but even then they must prove extreme loyalty to the organization. Usually, the members are trained from a very young age in magic and it is considered a great honour for a family to offer their children. Recently, rumour has it that the Order is amassing more members, specifically criminals from other magically gifted races. More and more non human agents are popping up, raising question about what is the true motive behind their recruitment.
One can find the agents of the Order mostly in human cities and strongholds, where magic is banned after the "Arcane Prohibition and Magick Control" was passed in 1257. If one is casting magic without a permit, they are apprehended by the Hexbreakers and face dire punishment. The Order is far from welcome in the Elven cities, where entry of the agents is strictly forbidden.
The Hexbreakers are expected to deal with anyone casting unauthorized magic as well as magical entities, whether those are benevolent or malevolent. After all, their objective is to shape a new world where humanity reigns supreme, and the one true religion is spread throughout the land.
"Fear us, for we are the Order, the harbingers of a future born from the ashes of enchantment."
