Ameny Penry
Prime Minister Ameny Penry (a.k.a. Meny to his family)
Ameny was born in the town of Toccia to Garth and Mair Penry who were traveling Bards. They also have a daughter, Gwenyth, that is a year older than Ameny. When Ameny was young his family would travel the towns of Marganation putting on shows for the children. While his parents would put on a bit of theater his sister would sing and Ameny would do acrobatic routines and juggling. Patrons enjoyed Ameny’s acrobatics skills and feats of strength.
When Ameny was 13 years old he was approached by Dai Bryn, the captain and leader of the local militia. Dai saw Ameny as strength and athleticism and offered to take Ameny under his wing and train him in the martial arts of the military as well as tactics and strategies. Ameny, always wished he could do more to help people he knew were hurting or scared and believed that learning how to fight would help him in that endeavor and he agreed. So, for the next five years he squired and trained under Dai’s helpful eye and became an accomplished swordsman.
After five years and upon coming of age Ameny took leave of his mentor and traveled to the city of Smetium where he studied leadership as it was practiced by civil, military and religious groups. In addition, Ameny studied history hoping to learn new stories he could share with his parents to be included in their stage plays.
Three years later, having been a studious pupil Ameny took to the road. From that point on he made it his mission to make himself available to help townspeople that were being oppressed by brigands, bandits or monsters. In the process, he made quite a name for himself as a fighter for the oppressed. Ameny became acclaimed as the go to man if a town needed help getting a group of brigands, orcs or bandits to relocate away from their farmland. Ameny would train some of the town’s farmers to be able to defend themselves in the future. Then, he would have them serve as backup when he later called out the offend group’s leader, give them an ultimatum that if he won the rest would leave the area and not return. Ameny never had to go up against the same offenders twice.
Over time, as his fame and popularity grew, Ameny began to draw young men and women to his cause. No matter how he tried to teach them and send them back to their towns many stayed by his side to fight to protect those less fortunate. Slowly he developed a small army.
When Ameny reached his early 30’s Ameny was approached by a contingent of town leaders expressing their desire to enlist his help in creating a new nation. Since Akkalion had their own leader, and the townsfolk feared he might try to extend his empire to include Marganation. At first Ameny refused not wanting so much power and lord over others. Finally, at the prodding of his followers and the cries from the general population Ameny agreed with the stipulation that he would not be named King and that they develop a new form of government, Democracy. The people gave in to his desire and Ameny asked that leaders from each town and guild come together to write a document spelling out leadership of this fledgling nation, create a government and spell out rights and laws for governance. This document became known as the “Vita Liberto Laetitia” or “The Treaty for Life, Liberty and Happiness among the United Federation of Maganation”.
