The Kahanaht Dominion
The Kahanaht Dominion is situated on the southeastern part of the continent of Adhorin. It is was a former federation of city states but it has long been combined into one country and is ruled by the Forgiving Assembly with an iron fist. The Assembly is a group of powerful and ruthless individuals who have seized control over the government by blackmail, intrigue and often outright murder. The composition of it's members is ever shifting due to these power struggles but their number has been stable for decades. A total of eleven members make up the Assembly and their identities are not known. They rarely appear publicly and if they do they are clad in anthracite coloured robes, their faces obscured by dark hoods. The Forgiving Assembly stands unmoving while decrees or edicts are proclaimed to the populace by criers.
The name of the Forgiving Assembly couldn't be any more cynical. Life under the Kahanaht Dominion cannot be called anything other than bleak. The vast majority of people toil from dawn till dusk and never seem to get anywhere, as they need to give a crushing majority of their earnings to the Chimers, thuggish tax collectors. Through a succession of corruption this money lands in the hands of the Pursers.The Forgiving Assembly has managed to keep the Kahanahti people in a vicious cycle of despondency, misery and fear. All people of noble blood where killed long ago as the Assembly did not want the people to have examples to look up to. All churches and shrines were burnt down as the Assembly teaches a culture of an austere and mirthless life, a person's highest aim being the fulfilment of his or her duty. Not that anything would ever come from it....
