Blackburn Dominion

The Blackburn Dominion is a mountainous region of Lithria ruled primarily by dwarves. The Dominion is split into eight regions ruled by a dwarven stronghold each known as the Iron Thanedoms with the central Thanedom being the home to the High King of the Dominion.
The region is mountainous throughout with stretches of steppe and savanna between ranges where cattle are raised and fields of oats are grown. Unlike the dwarven kingdoms of Harental and Binordheim which are exclusive to dwarves, the Iron Thanedoms have moved to incorporate surface-dwelling ancestries into their country as far back as the Dearth. Most dwarves remain below ground in more traditional caverns while the surface dwellers build homes above ground in sprawling and tiered cities.
The Dominion is a heavy trader in precious metals and stones to the regions around it and in Zarrath. They are the major source of precious metals (copper, gold, silver), other metals (iron, zinc, lead), weapons, and mechanisms in the land.
The people of the Dominion have been raised on the ideals of a hard days work and to the outsider may seem dour and serious in comparison to the "idealized" dwarven civilization, but the people of the Dominion take great pride in their contribution to their thanedom first, then the Dominion as a whole.
A notable organization that has grown out from the Blackburn Dominion is the Blackburn Wildflowers. Overseen by the High Rose of Blackburn, the Wildflowers are a successful organization of traders, mercenaries, and monster hunters, sometimes pursued by the rich to collect exotic creatures for their menageries. They have spread their influence to several other lands, and settled headquarters there through their dealings with the locals.   For several hundred years, the Dominion has played the part of protector to the region of Sharan. Few know the exact reason why this agreement was made, but it has been upheld by every dwarven high king of the Dominion without question.
