Grand Archive

The Grand Archive is the home of one of the largest repositories for knowledge and research since the Age of Magic, though according to their own records the Archive existed long before the sundering of Eldaria in one form or another. It is located on Keldein Isle southwest of the Maelstrom. It is accompanied by the large town of Scholar's Rest that has grown from its influence and acts as port and rest stop before visitors head up the mount to the Archive.

The Archive is a massive structure of several large towers and smaller buildings built into the stone of the low mountain peak of the island. While primarily seen as a library and monastery of independent study, it is made up of several divisions. The largest divisions inhabit the larger towers of the structure with the main archive itself taking up the largest tower in the center. There are rumors that even the towers are not enough to hold the knowledge the Archive has collected and that much of the oldest knowledge is burried deep within the mountain as well.

Scholar's Rest

Scholar's rest is a large town with a population around a thousand or more people. It acts as a supply port for the Grand Archive, and a place of business and leisure for those who live in the Archive. Due to the Archive's influence, several organizations have taken to setting up shop in the town, including the Stormwatch Alliance, the Convocation, and a small presence from the Wildflowers. Several nations exert their influence over the port town, but none have held the town in half a century.
The mayor and council of the town work closely with the Archive to provide supplies and protection to one another, but the Archive takes great care to ensure the town that they are not under their control.

Structure

The Archive is ran by a single leader, the Keeper of the Halls of Understanding and Mistress of Secrets, Kienna. However, she is more a legend than a known person to those outside the Archive, and leaves much of the day-to-day business in the care of various archivists, including the High Archivist, the senior of the operators of the Archive with the favor of their leader, alongside other rumored creations that tend to the stacks. In addition, each division of the Archive has its own hierarchy that answers to the High Archivist.

Public Agenda

The Grand Archive seeks to gather and keep knowledge of the world so that it may not be lost in times of war, cataclysm, or recklessness.
They wish to serve as a neutral power which supports new theories, creations, and understandings about the world.
They are not a university or a public library, but allow some to access its halls with the favor of the archivists or their leader. However, there are those among the Archive who have begun to work towards a structured way to expand education to the common people and bring some of the general knowledge they have to the masses.
