The Outer Gate
The Outer Gate is a story only truly understood by those who study religion or arcana. Most who have heard of it recognize it from the tale of the fall and imprisonment of the The Chained Twilight. The Outer Gate is a breach in the Wall of Night, a protective force at the edge of creation that keeps that which exists outside the universe from invading. It was created during the Void Epoch when the god now known as the Chained Twilight attempted to destroy the Wall of Night, allowing the Void and all its eldritch entities to swallow the universe in its darkness. Though stabilized by the gods, the breach was never able to be healed and sits at the edge of reality where Outsiders (aberrations and entities of the Void) attempt to push their way into the world, many servants of fell Void Gods that hunger for the universe beyond the Wall but are unable to enter.
Before the Void Breach sits a wasteland built around it known as the Apocalypse Fields where an unending war exists between the forces of the Void and armies of celestials and fae. And before the Apocalypse Fields is the final barrier and celestial fortress of Bastion. While the armies rage within the Fields, the defense is only nearly perfect as entities of the Void have slipped by in the past and some are even summoned purposefully by foolish arcanists reaching for power, an act that is extremely illegal among arcane societies and organizations.
