Ashclove

The fire came and burned through the land with all the fury of a wild beast. Not a thing was spared, neither tree nor creature nor stone. Once the flames had died, all that grew in the ashes were the thorns. They seemed to have been made of the ash themselves, so pale they were. All of us thought that the land was gone from us forever, that these thorny brambles would choke out anything that tried to rebuild. She knew what to do, however. We dug up the brambles and ground their thorns; with the paste we soothed our burns and set the land to heal once again.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Ashclove grows in small bramble-type clusters that spread wherever the ground has been heated by fire. Its branches are a chalky brown with pale green leaves and ash white thorns. They grow quickly and are known to almost completely take over recently burnt out areas if not kept in check.

Ecology and Habitats

Ashclove almost exclusively grows in areas recently ravaged by fires. I has been known to crop up in fire pits from time to time, and can also rarely be seen in the Whispering Desert due to the heat.

Biological Cycle

The thorns of ashclove brambles tend to grow throughout spring and summer, but fall off in autumn.

Additional Information

Domestication

Ashclove is notoriously difficult to grow domestically, as it has the habit of either dying or growing out of control. Ashclove can be grown from clippings if proper care and maintenance is observed, however.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The thorns of the ashclove are most commonly used by having them ground into a powder and mixed with a base to create salves used to treat burns and soothe sore muscles.
