A world built up of many islands, large and small, and just as many, if not more, different peoples to populate it.
This world is old, moreso than any written records or even legends can begin to guess at. The most common tale of its creation is as follows:
It began with a being. That being created the world, the universe around it, and the mundane creatures that walked and grew upon it. Then it created the spirits to watch over pieces of the world, each with their own domain and abilities within said domain. It gave them magic that spilled into the rest of the world, creating the fey, the mythfolk, and the magical beasts. Lastly, the being created humans, with no magic inherent to them but the ability to gain and learn it. They were meant to keep balance between the magical and the mundane. Some performed their tasks well, while others did not. The last thing the being gave to the world was to give those that it had created choice, and so the world grew.
Some folk choose to stay in their own little parts of the world, living life in simple comfort. There's nothing wrong with that. Others choose to go out and explore the lands their country resides on. Some like to sail the open oceans and see the world.
This world is one of both the magic and the mundane. Anything can happen here and enough willpower can bring about even the most impossible-seeming of outcomes. Most of all, this world is what you make of it.
