Magical Prosthetics

Simple wooden prosthetic limbs are heavy, cumbersome, and awkward. Oftentimes they don't fit properly and they're certainly not easy to move in. That's why they're supposed to only be temporary solutions until one can get to a proper Prosthesis Maker. After all, if you can afford it, why have a dead weight when you can have a real working magical limb to replace what you'd lost?
Magical prosthetics are a wonder of the Medical Magic scholars, able to act and feel almost exactly as your real limb could. Pain sensations are magically muted, though at the cost of touch sensations being similarly deadened.

Utility

Magical prosthetics can be attached one of two ways. Either:

• The prosthetic is grafted onto the user's body. This is a very long an painful process, however, so it is not commonly used.

OR

• The prosthetic is anchored by a piece of jewellery or other accessory. These items can range from rings to belts to garters, as long as they are worn close to the connection point and have some of the material used to craft the prosthetic. This has caused an entire industry of prosthesis jewellery and accessories to blossom. This option allows a user to remove the prosthetic as desired and has become something of a fashion statement in the upper classes.

Manufacturing

The basic fabrication process will depend mostly on the material being used for the prosthetic, but there is the additional component of the necessary magics needing to be woven into the material as the fabrication process is underway. This is often done with runes as most other methods require the work of two people at once in order to maintain efficiency and quality.

Access & Availability

Most major cities and larger towns typically have access to at least one prosthesis maker, though anyone living in a smaller settlement may have to travel out of their way to receive these prosthetics.

Complexity

Magical prosthetics are highly complex. In addition to the magics necessary to make the new limb attach and function properly, the maker must ensure that the sizing and dimension of the form are perfect, otherwise it will not function correctly and may even cause the wearer pain. This craft is highly specialized and can take a lifetime to truly master.
