Worm, Worm, and Worm? - The Writhing Pillars

General Summary

Having taken up a bounty to track a magical device called a cazaltium on behalf of Unintentional Asymptote , the Wardens found themselves in the Writhing Pillars outside of the Everchange Exchange. Tracking the device into the mounds they had just made it to the bottom of a pit where they found their target wrapped tightly in the coils of a large sleeping worm.   The group quickly convenes whipsering at the top of the shaft. Asymptote reminds the group that only he can safely teleport (including shadowstep) with the cazaltium and to do that he needs time. The group surveys the cave noting only the entrace above they are entering through and one tunnel leading out. Wary of potenitally running into more problems the group decides that the best option is to attempt a heist and if that goes poorly they can reevalute to run or fight. It's decided that Raijun, as the extraction expert, will go in solo. With some clever use of climbing tools and some magical aid Raijun is able to get directly over the sleeping work and begins repelling down. He successfully grabs the cazaltium and is headed back when he slips. A few of the rocks fall and everyone freezes expecting the worm to awaken. Everyone breathes out as the worm stirs but does not wake with Raijun making it back to the wall.   Myra and Hagren notice that there is a slight rumbling that they felt earlier in their journey down the tunnel but are unsure what might be causeing it as suddenly a second worm bursts through the tunnel. This second worm looks like it was ripped from a realm of horrors with spikes and acid dripping from its mouth. The group is torn about trying to get Raijun out with two now awake and angry worms versus jumping in to fight. They spend about a round trying to pull Raijun up before realizing it's untennable with a number of the members jumping down into the hole. As they begin to truely battle Myra and Hagren feel those rumbles again as a third worm, this one covered in frost, comes in through a wall. The group begins to panic with some of the Wardens suggesting that they try to climb back up. This is decided to be untenable as they realize they will be sitting ducks on the rope while the climb, though Myra suggests that people like Gwen and Tintreach don't need to be down in the thick of it.   As the group is getting beaten up Tintreach gets off a brilliantly placed polymorph on the frost worm turning it into a turtle while Gwen banishes the spooky spikey worm leaving only the purple worm to deal with. After a couple of near death blows the purple worm is taken out and the group refocuses on the frost worm who has been slowly snapping at people as a turtle. During the second worm Raijun gets eaten momentarily, Adama shows off his use of fireball, and Tintreach casts some very nice lightning strikes with Adama and Tintreach mocking Asypmotote asking why he can't do things like that. After cutting Raijun out of the dead frost worm the group takes a second as they hold their breath for the horror worm to come back from being banished. However after a minute, their weapons poised, they realize that Gwen miracualously chose the worm not from this plane of existance and so it would not be coming back resulting in a round of cheers.   The group think about heading back but Myra comments that she would like to collect some parts from the worms as they are already dead. While the frost worm seems almost unusable Adama, Raijun, and Tintreach try to take teeth and mostly find chipped or broken ones. Meanwhile with the Purple worm mostly intact Myra is able to pry off several shin sized scales from the wyrm, collect a few of it's teeth, and (thanks to a crit resulting in a 30+ skill check) an entire gallon of Purple Worm Poison. With the group flagging they look at their rope up and sigh preparing to start climbing when Unintentional Asymptote comments that he can teleport us back.   As the Wardens successfully make it back to the Everchange Exchange Asymptote surprises them by complimenting them adimitting that he underestimated the group. Adama, rolling very high on a persuasion check, asks for some of the Ay's teleportation sigils in addition to the scroll of teleportation they had previously negotiated. Asymptote agrees but says that we can never let the sigils leaking be traced back to him. Asymptote pulls out his book and shows Adama that he has sigils to Aegermouth Keep, Lion's Crest, Kolis-Tane, Maelmere, and Lunaacre, saying he can pick one. Adama negotiates up to two and asks if he has any for Slekul, despite previously discussing with the Wardens how much he doesn't want to be on the continent. Asymptote indicates that he doesn't because as he mentioned originally, they have not yet been set up. Adama sighs and picks the sigils for Lion's Crest and Kolis-Tane noting that it would be useful to get back to Lion's Crest and Kolis-Tane as Myra had mentioned her family was having issues and that's where she is based out of.   The group breaks from Asyptote amicably with him plannign to continue on toward The Carrefour. The Wardens return to Rolwisi's Lamp where they are greeted warmly by Wilth who says that it's a "fantastic suprise" as he "didn't expect you were going to make it". He asks what happened and Raijun rushes to tell the story as the rest of the group grabs a drink to settle down for the night.
