The Institute
The Landon Gordain Institute for the Recovery and Research of Magical Artifacts is a university based on Crescent Holm and dedicated to the understanding of magic and ultimately the recovery Whitethorn Bay. It was founded in the aftermath of the aurora destructive as a purely academic institution, but in more recent years have become a political power. It now controls the western coast of Capacia, including Whitethorn Bay and the crater where the city once stood.
Structure
The Institute is divided into two wings: The Reclamation Wing and The Research Wing.
The Reclamation Wing is responsible for the discovery, acquisition, and return of magical artifacts to The Institute for further research. To achieve this mandate, they commission requisitors to track down and obtain any item with arcane energy. Requisitors operate throughout Capacia, independently for the most part, accomplishing their goals through the means most suited to each situation.
The Research Wing is responsible for examining and cataloging all artifacts recovered by Reclamation. Their teams of scientists and wizards study various magical effects in the hopes of one day understanding the root cause of the aurora destructiva, reversing its magic, and returning the city Whitethorn Bay.

Public Agenda
The Institute's ultimate goal is the return of Whitethorn Bay. This altruistic aim has swayed many cities to assist, or at the least not hinder, the efforts of requisitors throughout the region. Most cities are friendly to The Institute and it's representatives.
The institute also runs a college. They pull the best and brightest from affiliated primary schools training them as either requisitors or researchers. Most are immediately offered faculty positions in one wing or the other immediately upon graduation.

History
Landon Gordain founded The Institute only a year after the aurora destructiva and the disappearance of Whitethorn Bay. He resigned his position as Yokraft's high wizard and established his school with major funding from Yokrâft and Naporia along with smaller contributions from other cities.
In the century since it's founding, The Institute has grown in size and influence. It's now essentially a small city state and holds sway over the western coast of the continent, including the crater where Whitethorn once stood.
