Knight
The title of knight serves two roles in Isendree. The first is as a military and police position and the second is as an honorary title given to people who have done a great service to Isenreen society. For example, Captain Viteri was knighted after he died to save the king.
As far as the second use is concerned, this is where many of Isendree's knights come from. Most of them are doctors or scientists, followed by writers, musicians and artists. Outside of those awarded for work in their professions, there are those who have been given the title for their actions, including acts of bravery, heroism, or gallantry.
Appointment
Police or military knights are typically knighted in a secret ceremony, whereas celebrated public figures are knitted in large public ceremonies. These ceremonies are typically held in the center of the green at the capital, where kings were crowned hundreds of years ago. Both groups are knighted by the reigning king or queen.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Very few knights have ever been stripped of their title, but it has happened. One of the most famous cases was Dr. Cvetcov was awarded the title soon after he created Fardal and "cured" Crown Prince Lukas Sundar seizures, but was quickly stripped of his title when the prince's health deteriorated and his death. There has been a call for several historical figures to be stripped of their titles after large scandals were discovered but as of yet nothing has been done about this.
History
This title has been used for police officers for over 200 hundred years, before that it was mainly only used for the military and soldiers who showed great bravery or honor in battle. This use has only recently evolved to be used to honor people who have greatly contributed to society in the past 80 or so years.
