The Esharra Waterfall

Geography

The Esharra Waterfall is the largest waterfall on the Famgian continent. Falling roughly two thousand feet, the waterfall feeds the Bancavan river. The waterfall falls out of a large opening in the eastern cliff face of Banca Mountain. A steep staircase climbs the side of the cliff face leading to the top, about half a dozen feet from the cave opening. From the top of the cliff one can see the Nyronan capital, Valentia to the south and on a clear day the Bargian Ocean in the east. The north and west views are obsucred by woods and mountains respectively. A short distance through the woods is a small monetary and grave.

Tourism

The grave of Ethona of Evarani is a major pilgrim site. Mothers bring their daughters after their first period and mothers-in-law bring their daughters-in-law for their first pregnancy. It is believed that Ethona, although she never had children herself, protected children and young women throughout her lifetime and that the monetary where she is buried was founded by her. These mothers hope that by bringing their children to the grave and honoring her that Ethona will protect their children and help with childbirth. Though these beliefs are mainly superstitions, the nuns at the Esharra Monastery are some of the best nurses in the country and have saved many mothers and infants. Some of the villagers living nearby have also begun to bring their children to the hospital for emergency medical care as well.    The waterfall also draws many tourists. It is widely known for both its beauty and its treacherous paths. Adventurers of all varieties and abilities aspire to climb to the top of the waterfall and beyond. From the top of the waterfall, one can hike to the Evripos Hot Springs and if you're adventurous enough the Escan Orak Volcano, although none have gone that far and returned. After that the trail splits. One path leads to the Nindaran pass and the other leads to on of the many tributaries of the Samara river.
