Cold baths, balms, and soft blankets. Whatever we can do to help keep them comfortable and cool in their final days. — Soothnurse
When a
Catalurgist pushes themselves too hard and experiences more Burn than they can handle,
Burnout occurs. Physical damage done through excessive heat from Catalurgic magic, it cooks, hardens, and scars a Catalurgists body -- bones, organs, and all.
Burntout Catalurgists, unless very lucky, find their lifespans incredibly shortened whenever Burnout occurs. To help reduce the pain in their final days or hours, medical clinics known as Ash Halls were established by any organization that employs Catalurgists for extended periods of time. Here the Catalurgists may come, to find any small relief that might ease their passing.
Comfort and Cooling
Once Burn becomes Burnout for a Catalurgist, there is not much that can be done for the unfortunate individual. Ash Halls then serve mostly to fulfil whatever request the Catalurgist might have -- these requests usually come in the form of asking for pain relief, heat reduction, or comfort and company. Thus Ash Halls are normally stocked up as much as possible on pain killers, cold water and balms, and the softest blankets able to be found.
A sad yet comforting place... In regards to combat cathalurgists: is it common for people, maybe colleagues, to kill them to ease their pain? Or alternatively, stay with them for those last minutes?
Definitely! Combat Catalurgists are sadly the most prepared for going through Burnout, as they both expect it and know they cannot avoid it during battle -- so there's a strong camaraderie between those on the field. Comforting them in their final minutes, or ending the pain for them, whichever the Burntout requests.
