Transmutist's Journal

Recording at the speed of thought

Lets see... 45 grams of light stock paper, sourced from evergreen trees...
Leather cover, 60 grams, dyed dark blue with fine cobalt powder...
One ink splotch, 5 grams... I'll need more ink to make this last.
— A Transmutist's musings
A Transmutive Catalurgist can impart words and thoughts into a nearly blank notebook simply by holding it. Using this simple bit of Catalurgy allows for very quick, flow of thought style note taking -- perfect for clandestine operations, field work, or record keeping. Many Transmutists have even begun to keep a Journal for personal reasons, as spilling their thoughts into a book held in their hand is far easier than picking up a pen and writing them down instead.

Understanding and Modifying

All types of Catalurgy are in the end, controlled by the mind; Genesists visualize, Aurists empathize, and Transmutists understand. A Transmutist can interact with and modify something she understands fully -- where she knows what it is made of, how those parts came to be, and what happens when one thing is removed from the rest.
Modifying the contents of a Transmutist's Journal is fairly simple, and thus requires very little Ichor and induces very little burn. To a Transmutist, it is as simple as understanding the material makeup of the book -- paper, binding, and ink -- in proper ratios, and then moving or modifying them. She can, with a small amount of effort, make words dance across the page as easy as thinking.
Wait, what font do you think in? Is that a choice you make, or does it just automatically come out like that?

Extra Effort

With a bit more understanding and thought, a Transmutist can change colours and size of her Journal at will as well. This way, should the need arise for secrecy, she can disguise her Journal in the heat of the moment to hide it from any prying eyes.

Burn Risk

Although the act of modifying a Journal to impart words upon its pages is relatively low effort, if done for long enough and at a high enough rate, serious burn can occur -- once, even to the point of Burnout
She was staring so intently at something I couldn't see -- and then suddenly, *fwoom*, this book she's holding catches on fire.

That's a really cool idea - a sort of telepathic notepad :D And what an excellent question too - how do the words come out?   I have one question: the first sentence is a little hard to understand. What do you mean by through perfect understanding? :')   So glad to see more Cathedris this summer camp and can't wait for moreeeeeee! :D

Exactly, yeah! :D The words will mostly come out looking like the Catalurgist's regular handwriting, though if they put some thought into it, they can make the words look however they want.   Also ah, yeah, I kinda thought that might happen D: I really need to work on the language I use to describe Catalurgic stuff... I might just cut that part out, since later on the article goes into what it means to understand things -thinking emoji-   Thanks as always Q <3 Excited to continue making more :D

YES! MAGICAL JOURNALS! I would be afraid my book would go up in flames though if I used it too much. I LOve the concept and I love the article. Wonderful :)

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.

I wish I could learn this! I can never type fast enough to keep up with my thoughts. This is such a great idea.

This idea may or may not have come from that exact problem/desire -- how can I get my words down faster!? Haha

Lol, burning out because of them working too much :p That's certainly one way to limit the extent of the burnout XD   I'm not sure if I'd really like the idea of being mentally connected to a journal though. you'd have to really focus on what you want to say and not get distracted at all...

Yeah, always gotta watch out for the Catalurgist that's a workaholic and never seen without their journal D:   That's a good point actually, it'd take some serious mental focus -- I wonder if there's any new video uploads from my youtube subscriptions -- to be able to record only what you want to!

"What font do you think in?" - this is the best quote ever. (I hate picking fonts, I would be a mess if I had to choose, there are so many to pick from!!!)

Same here, sometimes it's so impossible! I imagine among some Transmutists, seeing what font they think in might be seen as a sort of personality test.

Now that personality test is a beautiful worldbuilding thought. I love it!

'Wait, what font do you think in? Is that a choice you make, or does it just automatically come out like that?' I love this. Can you imagine the shame if you thought in Comic Sans?   Great concept! :D

"Ewwwwwww, you think in Comic Sans!?!" *cue every Catalurgist around making fun of you   I mentioned to Solar, but I think it'd be a fun personality test among Transmutists too, to see what font they use :P   Thank you! :)
