This institution is known as perhaps the most prestigious generalist acadamy on Cathedris -- with multiple world renowned programs of Medicine, Engineering, and Math. It's also, somewhat paradoxically, famous for being incredibly secretive. Much research goes on behind it's thrice locked doors -- research that is a mystery to outsiders.

Notoriously Secretive

It's been said that the research conducted by Degrunda's premier Academy is beyond human imagination; the brightest young minds that the world has to offer are gathered here where the bounds of their ingenuity are regularly pushed to their breaking points. Rumours say it's such an intense study that the students here can count the hours of sleep they get per semester on just one hand; some say that it's called the Veiled Academy due to how many young academics die and "pass through the veil". Of course, nothing is confirmed.
What is confirmed is the absolute prestige of the Veiled Academy's pedagogy. Students fortunate enough to graduate from the mysterious urban halls of this school go on to become some of the world's foremost researchers, inventors, and scientists. While any discoveries made at the academy remain secret and property of the school and its management, graduates often go on to release industry shaping inventions time and time again. There exists such strong camaraderie born from commiseration that a common saying among students and graduates to newly admitted students wishes "May you pass through the veil unscathed".

The Veiled Academy helps keep its mysterious atmosphere in part through the way its campus is formed; the school is an urban organization, spread through many of the ancient stonework buildings that make up the City of Night and Shade's downtown neighbourhood. It's hard to tell where one part of the academy begins and ends, and entrances are nigh impossible to find without prior knowledge; countless locked doors and boarded up arches mask the true entrances in plain sight. The only ones that truly know the layout of the campus are the ones that run it -- the even more mysterious Faculty of Upper Research. Them, of course, and their patron -- the Legion.
