Wadj-et (waad•jet)

"Green Eye"

Wadj-et is an area of lush green grasslands and marshes south of Deshret. The Tenmav River runs through the heart of the nation, bringing mineral rich sediments to the region. It frequently floods, giving an ideal environment for the nation's primary crop, rice, to flourish. The region is temperate with many natural and artificial waterways, canals, and streams.

Structure

Wadj-et is composed of many confederate clans, working together to govern. Each clan is responsible for many of their own laws and regulations, though they are heavily influenced by the various guilds. Clan chieftans meet regularly to discuss policy and potential changes. Women have largely been disallowed from participating in the clan leadership, however they have found their voices through the guilds, which are exclusively for women. Each guildmaster is allowed an equal vote on the guild council, from bakers to blacksmiths. The number of guildmasters per guild is dependent on each guild's membership numbers. Because the guilds operate on a national level and clan leaders only control a small territory, the guilds wield significant soft power in Wadj-et.

Culture

In this matriarchal nation, women are the primary laborers, business owners, and academics. Men, meanwhile, tend to matters of the home, childrearing, and clan policy. It is important to most people in the region to have a pet, which they form a deep bond with. Native animals to the area include larkspurrs, orchid bears, and martegolds.   Additionally, all citizens must serve for a three year period in Wadj-et's military upon maturation.

Agriculture & Industry

Flooded rice paddy fields are a common sight in Wadj-et, where women are seen communally working to tend the high-labor crop. Rice is a staple for Wadjens, used in most meals and even made into the foundations of buildings. Sake is a popular export and nearly all children in the region are raised on rice milk.
