The Land of O'Rieno

The territory of O'Rieno is is as diverse as it is mutable, a frustrating puzzle to be solved repeatedly. But the rewards are undoubtedly worth the undertaking.   - Calliope Phoenix, Pathfinder Lodgemaster   O'Rieno as a geographic territory is landlocked between the nations of Thruven and Besksdale to the north, Cerenna to the east, New Allons to the south, and the Autumn Reaches and Kadal to the west. However the nations surrounding O'Rieno are largely irrelevant, as the magical barrier placed upon the nation causes someone from Besksdale to step right through to New Allons or vice versa, as though the territory of O'Rieno were not present.   Within the nation itself, the geographic territory of O'Rieno is known to shift for unknown reasons. The effects of this are threefold:   1. What is sometimes a trivial journey can become arduous at a moment's notice. Other journeys that would normally take weeks could be completed in hours. 2. The seas of O'Rieno are by far the most affected, with the small sea that is central to the O'Rieno territory exponentially larger than it's size would indicate, for reasons unknown. 3. The Castle Arcadia to the south  of the Cerulean Sea is the only landmark unaffected, with landmarks relative to the castle always being in the same general direction.

Geography

The south close to Arcadia is relatively arid, influencing the architecture. The Great Sandy Desert near the castle leading to the village of sandy point in the west and south reflects the winds from Kadal's great peaks coming through the nation.    To the west of Arcadia in the north lie the Mountains of Chaos, encompassing much of the east and north in a series of craggy cliffs and hidden valleys.    To the north of Arcadia lies the Cerulean Sea. Across it lies parts of the dark forest, farmland, as well as a few isolated and lonely mountain peaks. To the east the Dark Forest continues and circles south towards arcadia, with isolated caves, peaks and valleys intermixing with the woodland area. To the southeast of Arcadia lies the Second Steppe, a fertile grassland. Farmlands are common in the second steppe, and wild unicorns and pegasai roam here.     Of course all of these directions have been known to shift and rotate at a moments notice. At times the mountains of chaos can seem miniscule or the dark forest all encompassing.

Fauna & Flora

In addition to the normal flora and fauna that could be found across the diverse ecosystems of O'Rieno, there are a number of magical flora and fauna that are native to O'Rieno or have otherwise migrated to the magic land. They include:
  • Unicorns
  • Pegasai
  • Mermaids
  • Elementals
  • Harpies
  • Fae
  • Bulettes
  • Manticores
  • Centaurs
  • Dragons (one known)
  • Overgrown vines
  • Carnivorous Flowers
In addition, there are a number of sentient animals within the dark forest, though whether or not this is due to the influence of the great witch Baba Yaga is unknown.

Natural Resources

O'Rieno is rich in limestone, gems and minerals from the mines in some of the more accessible regions of the mountains of chaos, with a large stone crafting industry in Stonehold. The nation has an abundance of farmed goods, plenty of choral, pearls, and fish from the Cerulean sea, and spices and exotic herbs from those who dare into the dark forest.    By far the greatest resource of the nation is raw magical energy. Raw magical crystals are commonplace and are used to power much of the goods and services of Arcadia and Stonehold.
