Angelbird City

At the foot of the known stars and the head of the frontiers of the Protea Galaxy sits the domed city of Angelbird, named after the Angelbird Gate which is watches over. Built into the Malitine Craters of Litianam, the complex of white domes and other structures contrast the gray and black surface of the planet, seemingly blending into the thin, pale white atmosphere of the planet. The city was the staging grounds for the construction of Angelbird Gate and later became a hub for exploration and trade in the Protea Galaxy. That was, until the destruction of Guardianbird Gate.

Demographics

Angelbird City is a rare multi-species settlement. The city is divided into sections with different scales and atmospheres accustomed for the species they are meant to serve. The largest sectors of the city hold the populations of species nearer to the Guardian Angel Bridge but, there are members from every sophont in the Quadriarma Union at Angelbird City.

Architecture

Domes

Under the oppressive heat of Litianam's parent and the thin planetary atmosphere are a large series of domes and underground habitats. Some domes are completely solid structures, but others are not. Many domes have exterior decks that block harmful solar radiation from entering the domes, but keep large windows uncovered so the exterior world remains visible. The base color is white but the color blue is used to accentuate the domes. Patterns painted onto the domes reflect the culture or use of a specific dome. The names of each structure are also painted on the surface.
Type: Domed City   Location: Malitine Craters, Litianam   Government: Confederacy of the Quadriarma (former)
Population: 381,640 (last QU census)   Species: Trotans, Nastera, Hintreli, Lupias, Allawn, Taofimo, Versoni, Others (Pending Names)
Imports: Hydrogen, Lithium, Silicon, Electronics, Superconductors, Spacecraft, Medicine, Fertilizer, Water Ice   Exports: Oxygen, Lead, Titanium, Tungsten, Perdalene, Steel, Aluminum, Reactor Components, Spacecraft Components, Water, Food

Subsurface

While a lot of the city certainly is visible from the surface, most of it is underground. Protected from heat and radiation, most of the denizens live and work in the cool environments lit up by lights that emulate natural sunlight. Citizens often live and work within walking or biking distance, but tram networks are also available. The interior is remarkably comfortable. Plenty of services are included the spacious caverns, and the ceilings are covered in monitors that display mockup environments. Walkways are large and made from brick - something practically unheard of. Street planters, and green walls add color to the environment and help to keep the air and water clean.

Exterior

Sectors of the city inhabited by other species are connected. They share power, water, and waste management facilities. A hover rail network outside of the city's habitats connects all the sections of the city for quick travel and movement of goods, but each sector has airlock access to the next. The outside of the city houses much of the infrastructure. A couple of spaceports, cooling equipment, and solar panels just to name a few. Infrastructure, if possible, is protected by buildings built in a similar form to the architecture of inhabited parts of the city and painted much like the domes.   Although much of the city is near or below ground level, a large spire with viewing decks and air traffic controller is built in the settlement's center. The structure rises 76 meters off the ground, providing unobstructed view of the entire complex. It was completed 2 months before the Battle of Guardianbird in order to kickstart a tourism industry and benefit public perception of the expensive exploration effort. The destruction of Guardianbird ruined that plan, but city citizens do enjoy it. Unlike the typical structure design, the tower has a silvery sheen to it with blue stripes running along the edges of the tower.

What an interesting spaceport! I love how well you've thought out the imports/exports, and how they manage clean air and water on a planet that may not easily supply such.   To take your article to the next level, may I recommend adding a small Spoiler blurb, tooltip, or article link to GuardianBird Gate and the associated battle? It seems like this is an important event for the city, but I have no context as to what happened and how it affected its status as on the limits of the known world.   I love how much you've thought out about this settlement, and I can't wait to see what else you write!   (On a side note, you may want to check the CSS for article excerpts; the pop-up for Angebird Gate is grey on dark blue and just a bit hard to read)
