Abyss Dwellers/Chasmers
Other names: Abyssian (also refers to the local religion), Chasm Dweller/Chasmer
Originally Cotd settling around the jungles to the south of The Pitch Black Forest. They traveled deep into the abysses uncovered, those areas being the only portions that felt dark enough (in both a literal and dimensional sense) to be like home. In earlier times, while their homes would be below, they climbed up in search of food. Nowadays, having discovered farm-able subterranean crops (mostly mushroom variants), they rarely venture closer to the surface except to mine exposed ores.
Abyss Dwellers were reputed to be the greatest metalworkers on the continent, even after the Epacsi enchantment boom. A combination of unique ores (or at the very least, easier access to ores several miles below the surface) and friendly relations with their neighboring binder civilizations give them a unique edge that even their forest-dwelling cousins lack. The Abyss Dwellers were some of the first to make use of whirlpool spirits as lathes and grindstones, centuries before Epacs popularized the practice. They were also the first to discover a reliable method of dilith alloying, although Epacs' method allowed for an order of magnitude more output.
