The Pitch Black Forest
A massive, ancient, wooded area. Gets extremely attuned to the Plane of Darkness as one travels deeper, to the point that there are actual constant dimensional tears near the center.
The forest has a reputation for being cursed because its outskirts' Darkness bleed through is just inconsistent enough to corrupt wildlife without letting them adjust to new conditions. This leads to some pretty monstrous looking creatures, along with a large population of puppeteers. As a result, an outsider coming across the outskirts will find themselves accosted by animated decaying corpses, mockeries made of rotten wood and bone, and partially skeletal yet seemingly alive beasts. Not the warmest welcome.
Very deep within is a civilization of humans that have adapted to see Darklight . To outsiders, they are incredibly pale, with hair and eyes that seem to actively darken their surroundings.
As a result of dimensional phenomena, the Pitch Black Forest is 'bigger on the inside'- on a continental scale, it is only roughly the size of say, Belgium. Once one crosses the boundaries into truly dark-aligned territory, the land spans almost the size of France (~15x the size). The land's expansion is a result of dimensional stretching, and as a result did not exist in the time before humans settled. 'Stretched' areas, land that comes into existence to fill the dimensional voids, tears, and disturbances, is devoid of life (barring whatever dark planar organisms leak through). As a result, the most well-developed ecosystems and oldest trees are found in areas that originally existed pre-dark rituals. 'Newer' land has markedly younger trees, no fossils etc.
