Aurelius was from the Armidian south. As one of the 12 Magi and one of the 6 human representatives, he was considered the unofficial leader. Aurelius was a master of wards, protection circles and preventative magics.
When Dumas raised his armies in betrayal, Aurelius rallied the other Magi, and argued that they must combine their powers and forces to stop him. The Armidian Empire, sometimes uses Aurelius' authority amongst the Magi as justification for their own position above other minor states and the North of Armida.
