Prelude to the Present: Session 16 - The one with the Insects & the Skeleton Violinist
General Summary
The night was cold and quiet as the group set up their camp, taking their much-needed rest. Beihlur and Amdhi lounged on hammocks, while Ozul delved into his studies of Deep Speech. Morven retreated to their tent for a well-deserved rest, and Kelbor kept watch, ever alert.
As the hours passed, Kelbor spotted movement in the distance and shot a squirrel with his crossbow. But the quiet of the night was soon interrupted by a rumbling from underground. The Warforged investigated, and to his horror, a large insect with blade-like claws burst from the ground. More followed, attacking the group with ferocity.
Thandruil, Morven's elk, was gravely injured, but Amdhi was quick to stabilize them. The group fought bravely, and after a hard-won battle, the last of the creatures were slain or had fled. They paused to catch their breath, grateful to be alive.
But their respite was short-lived. As the night wore on, they heard the haunting strains of the same elven violin they had all dreamt of the night before. Amdhi, Ozul, Bigark, and Kuzig were drawn towards the sound, seemingly unaware and unconscious. The rest of the group followed, led deep into the forest to a large hill with multiple levels.
At the top of the hill stood a figure, the very skeleton they had all dreamt of, adorned with large red rubies in place of eyes and wielding a violin. Instead of a bow, the skeleton wielded a sword with strings pulled between the hilt and the blade. The group engaged, as the Bonesinger played its mournful tune.
