Althea Highhill (a.k.a. "Smudge")
Althea is somewhat of a disappointment to her family. She doesn't have the focus or discipline to follow in her father's footsteps of organizing the agricultural effort of the halflings and she lacks the charisma and insightfulness to someday take her mother's place as a council member. For a while it seemed that due to her intelligence and love of learning she would someday make an excellent wizard, but her tutor cut ties after just a few of years of mentorship. He claimed that it was due to Althea's lack of an inherent magical ability, but it's likely that in reality he also feared yet another accident involving fire in his home.
Althea was eventually taken under the wing of Vavyre Timbertoes and her salvage op. While Althea can't be trusted to return from missions promptly or even having completed the task at hand, she can be relied upon to share her wealth of knowledge about history, languages, religion, and anything else she can find a way to learn about. While not an efficient explorer, she's a thorough and cautious one. She's also surprisingly handy in a fight.
