Mephit
These darling little creatures are an odd choice for a familiar or pet, however in Cerilia Dwarven Mages (a rare find to be sure) will sometimes take an Earth Mephit as their familiar. However, if you see a wizard with a Mephit familiar approach with caution. Mephits are often evil and mischievous in nature.
Mephits come in all shapes, forms and substances. They are very wide in their variety, but will always be elemental in some form. Sometimes a mixture of two different types to make another. Mephits were extraplanar, outsider creatures similar to imps.
They were not native to the Prime Material Plane, as they were somewhat linked to various elemental or quasi-elemental planes of existence.
Their disposition depended on their plane of origin, though they were rarely endearing. Each type of mephit had some form of breath weapon, which could usually do minor elemental damage, though it was mostly intended to ward off would-be attackers.

Ecology and Habitats
While they prefer the elemental planes, they can be found on most planes as they explore and have a nose for mischief.

Mages summon them as familiars at their own risk. If the mage has a similar nature to the mephit things will go fine until the mephit decides this relationship is no longer benefiting them.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
All mephits have a breath weapon, a "Death Burst" ability that triggers on their death, and the ability to disguise themselves as innocuous elemental matter.

They're cute, I wanna adopt one! ^^ It's probably asking too much, but small images of every type would work wonders on overall impression. Good job on describing that mix. From the beginning I saw a dwarven mage with a shapeshifting blob of rough stone, ready to jump at my face or do some other harm.
That's a really good idea! Thank you! I might look into doing that. :D And thank you very much for your comment. I'm glad you liked it :)
