Session 6: Markless and Free! Report

General Summary

5th of Roelir 1524 continued
After having lunch the group left the Attractive Carrot to do some basic shopping.
Upon their return they all went up to one of their rooms to look at the cipher and the letter.
Fargrim spoke with Mary about the local church of Haelyn. Once getting directions, he made his way there and spoke with a Dwarven priest by the name of Wilbert. Together they spoke about the mark, the one case they knew of where members of the church were brutally murdered. Wilbert spoke highly of his high priestess Rosa Tamsin who had been away at the time dealing with a problem in the local forest.
Upon his return he came back to see thet Lily, Reign and Karl had broken the cipher with the aid of the half coded letter and had written their own letter to send off at a latter stage.
Original Letter:
Dear lord Rab Drewett, We have investigated what we know of your son's murder so far. We have 5 lowlife's that have dared to dishonor your son but taking his light away from us. We are currently assigning our oldest and best contract to their case. She will take care of them with the instruction to bring one back alive for intensive questioning. We will ensure they fully understand the mistake they have made before they join the lower ranks of the cause. We will write again once the deed is done and we have all the information.

Please accept our condolences on the matter.

New Letter:
Dear lord Rab Drewett, We wish to report that our assassin has expedited her contract due to the severity of their crimes against you. The lowlifes were foolish enough to try to find us rather than run or hide like most of our marks do. As promised, we have kept one alive and have already begun to question them, but have nothing more to report.

We shall await your instruction on how to proceed.

After writing the letter they went down for dinner.
Lily went to see the urchin (we now know him to be Nate) who had previously given her information. She saw Rosa giving the urchin money for shoes and food with the condition being no games or gambling. After Rosa left Lily went up to Nate. He shared new information about:

• A new member of the King's staff who had magic. A mean lady who ruined the Nate's shoes.
• The Queen seemed okay with Nate and didn't make a fuss but did get him to leave.
• Jashua has told Nate to not go back after that even though his original instruction was to get information.

The group then relaxed and eventually heading to bed.
A few hours later the group was attacked:

• Reign was awoken to someone strangling and smothering her.
• Fargrim was badly wounded before he could fully wake.
• Karl was awoken by Fargrim's attack and managed to raise the alarm before he went down.
• The alarm woke Lyra and Lily
• Lyra and Good were taken out in a back alley after discovering the barracks had already been attacked (likely before they were attacked).
• Lily put up a good fight, delaying the stranger from taking her and raising her allies back up before she was choked out.
• Lyra and Good were dispatched not long after.

6th of Roelir 1524
Fargrim was the first to wake to find himself in a cellar. Tied to a chair with his friends slowly waking up. One by one each person woke up. Reign was making good progress on freeing herself. Until the stranger revealed herself. She started off with the idea of interrogation but Fargrim was able to convince that going question for question could be more fun with his good diplomacy. Karl's wit and logical connections helped to bring her round to the fact they are not the enemy and instead had the same enemy. She noticed Reign escape attempts but only made it known she was aware but didn't do anything about it. Instead this seemed to help bring her round further and in the end let them go. Turns out they were still in the inn but had been moved to the cellar. Important facts revealed:

• She was imprisoned and enslaved for over 500 years.
• From another plane (suspected lower planes and of fiendish nature).
• She has a hit list a mile long and is still adding to it as she goes.

The group retired for a full rest and awoke around noon. Upon going down for lunch the Master of the Watch was waiting to see Reign. He was relieved to see her alive and explains that many nobles have been slaughtered with their families. Reign reveals Xeldarix and the Master of the Watch decided action should be taken as they discussed the situation. He recommended talking to the Lady Rosa of the temple of Haelyn.
Fargrim and Karl went with the Master of the Watch to talk to Rosa about tracking and destroying this fiend. It became clear that her true form was possibly bound due to being bound to this plane, making her difficult to track and a trap would be a better solution. However until this could be arranged Rosa was getting her priests and paladins active to start searching the city without causing alarm.
Lily and Reign went to try and find Xeldarix in the underground temple, but found her on the way at a cafe. Reign attempted to convince her to just go home with the idea they would take care of those who had enslaved her. She revealed that she cannot go home until this is dealt with as it wouldn't end well for her. She was never in control when released and did anything she was commanded to. She was tired of being someone else's doll.
Lily offered a different proposal. Don't kill them and instead act behind the scenes as support, allow this planes justice systems to punish them. This interested Xeldarix and she agreed with a few amendments. She would kill the big bosses and those in charge were active in her situation while allowing the group to take people into custody. She seemed to be looking forward to playing a part of a doll without actually being one. She had arranged for Christos to bring the Dean of Necromancy to the cafe to discuss some leads and invited the group to join them. They have an hour til it happens.
Lily and Reign went back to get the group and discuss their options.
